“The first thing that stood out to me about Physicians Insurance was the strength of their commitment to Members,” said Kelly Gannon, who came on board as Director of Underwriting at Physicians Insurance in May.
Kelly has nearly three decades of experience focusing on physicians and allied healthcare risks at another national carrier. This made her the perfect fit to focus on the larger and more complex risks of our Members. “There has been a rapid rise in consolidations, private equity ownership, and multi-state and multi-specialty groups in healthcare,” Kelly notes. Many of these organizations have exposures and scale that didn’t even exist five or 10 years ago.
Kelly’s expertise, coupled with Physicians Insurance’s mutual mindset, makes her uniquely equipped to address these exposures. “We are able to be creative and innovative in structuring coverage and tailoring protection with targeted enhancements for these Members,” Kelly notes.
“All of us at Physicians Insurance are united by one purpose: to protect, defend, and support our Members,” she adds. “We are able to do that without the distraction of quarterly shareholder accountability, which is a powerful difference from places where I’ve worked in the past.”
Another thing that stands out to Kelly about Physicians Insurance is the all-hands-on-deck approach. “We are always asking, 'How can we help our Members and broker partners?’” she says. “And we deliver. We’re agile: if we see a way we can help our policyholder—providing a new risk management solution, for example—our culture and our capabilities readily combine to make that happen.
“Of course, it’s also a great comfort, not only to our Members and brokers, but also to us as underwriters, to know that our policies are backed by a company that will do what it takes to defend our Members—bringing outstanding resources together to defend good medicine,” she adds.
Kelly, who holds Registered Professional Liability Underwriter (RPLU) and Associate in Risk Management (ARM) designations, knows what it means to be a trusted partner, and is excited to contribute to Physicians Insurance’s existing partnerships and build new ones.
