Balancing Risks: Strategies for Managing Cognitive and Behavioral Challenges with Medical Staff
October 15, 2024 | 12:00 p.m. -- 1:00 p.m. PT
Physician and APP behaviors have the potential to impact patient care both positively and, unfortunately, negatively. Managing troublesome and challenging practitioner behaviors requires a consistent approach, thoughtful response, clear documentation, collaboration with Human Resources, and close follow-up to ensure resolution. The same tools must be employed when evaluating practitioners who exhibit cognitive impairment behaviors that are concerning, although others will also be required. Hospitals, other healthcare facilities, and employers should be familiar with the similarities between the approaches to these two challenging problems, as well as how and when they become distinct.
