In 2022, we tried 10 cases across California, Oregon, and Washington, defending 20 Members. However, as courts begin to reopen in a post-COVID era, we expect to see litigation activity trend upwards across all states in the nation. Our successes in 2022 contribute to a win rate of more than 96% during the last 10 years.

As we close the door on 2022, I cannot help but pause and reflect on both the struggles and successes of the past year. We recognize that this has been a difficult time for our Members, with staffing shortages, increasing levels of burnout, and deep financial challenges—particularly for hospitals.
Staying true to our mission of protecting, defending, and supporting our members, we are pleased announce our new Criminal Defense Reimbursement Coverage which enhances our professional liability insurance for physicians and hospitals to include defense costs incurred to respond to criminal allegations arising from patient care.
This is an important endorsement that was developed in response to the growing threats of criminal allegations our members may face.
